 Floreat Salopia

Walking: Shrewsbury, December 21

'Twas a cold & wet old day when we made our way down the road to Shrewsbury,
to stay for a couple of days in early December...
been before, but only for the day, so time for a good toot about!

Stopped at The Old Post Office, a traditional pub in the heart of the city: a tad expensive,  scuffed & creaky yet comfy & quiet, with a fantastic breakfast.
We started out straight away to get our peep on... & ended up getting a few decent wanders: a very damp & darkening one to start with... had to go pub!

Hella rain overnight, & the river banks were threatened, but what a day to follow: bright, warm, & dry. Great walk through the town & around the snaking Severn, with so much to see (& plenty of peaceful away from main drags). More churches than you can shake a stick at, & interest aplenty in buildings across the ages...

The river kept rising as the Welsh hills drained, & eventually burst it's banks: most obviously around the English Bridge & The Quarry.

A beautifully preserved melange, demanding exploration - side streets & ginnels, nooks & crannies, pubs & eateries, a brilliant market - & some more great beer... what's not to like? We ended our stay with a lunchtime organ recital at St Chad's.
Two full days wasn't enough - but we only live half an hour away!
