A short walk on Wenlock Edge

This morning we leave Cardington, a tad sadly,
& park at Presthope for a few hours stroll on N end of the Edge.
Do yourself a favour & visit...
so much wandering to be enjoyed!

Cardington walk

Saturday opened beautifully...
a slow start, the a long half-day walking
First we took local footpaths, rather than the road, to Cardington...
& then, tucked behind the last houses in the village, the path to Netchley quarry...
to wander SE across the Wilderness at the base of Caradoc.
Generally hot-hot-hot... but a couple of sections were tree-lined & lovely!
There was half of the magnificent Hough & Sons pork pie to share!
A minimal road walk back to the evening village,
to be met by the Norman Church of St James simply bathed in lovely light.
Again, the Royal Oak was really easy to find... with more beers to savour.
Great pub, good grub: steak & kidney PUDDING , Lord preserve us!
Back to the campsite via the road (so-o-o much quicker!)
Irish nightcap, then slept so very, very well...

Cardington: walking The Lawley

Magnificent campsite a mile from Cardington... 'let's have a wee look around'...
best part of 4 hours later we dragged ourselves into the pub!
Lots of ups & downs, across farmland, footpaths, & odd byways...
much of the land around the heights east of Cardington is open access.
A wee bit o'steep road-walking to access the NE end of The Lawley
377m that bloody hill, on a breezy day, 'twas an hard ask of elderly gentlefolk...
especially ones with knees! Off in the distance, that's The Wrekin.
Fantastic views & plenty to see (if one managed to catch one's breath!)
Here's the top... & that's Caer Caradoc looming over Church Stretton.
Downhill was an awful lot worse! To's hurty toes!
There was cows - or I could be talking a load o'bullocks
It brightened as we plodded the road back to Cardington...
vistas aplenty... great views of Hope Bowdler Hill
(beautiful-looking, triple summit 426m/410m/393m, open access)
the usual countryside tat - guardians of the environment my arse!
The Royal Oak was very easy to find at the end of this
ill-conceived, lovely, interesting toe-torture
- transpired the insole had slid down in me newish boot!
Good pints... then some more...
