Photography: Rosedale b&w views

Yeah, ok, it ain't black & white... but I really like that one!

Walking: Rosedale east mineral railway

We left the campsite & headed up Daleside Road,
passing the worker's houses of Hill Cottages & Rosedale East,
made our way up to the dismantled railway, & continued north.
A hot day, light was bright but readily overcast...
lots to look at & great views (but often very flat light!)
There is no mistaking this as owt but an industrial landscape...
high iron-ore concentration stone & coal was readily had hereabouts,
& forging of metal taken place since at least the year 1200.
The calcining kilns are truly monumental,
& relics of workings lie all about.
I read that 12 million tons of ironstone left this dale
for smelters at Durham & Teeside...
the Yorkshire Klondyke is quiet now, & nature reasserts dominion.
Lovely, mind...
et une magnifique tourte au steak a la biere
at the Lion Inn on Blakey Ridge!
We descended via Dalehead, to meander the valley bottom,
crossing & recrossing the River Seven, exploring local footpaths.
A grand day of walking... & we didn't go to the pub!

Photography: few days in the North Yorkshire Moors

We were in Rosedale 3 years ago... always intended to return.
So, we finally did...
for the views...
for the walking...
for the pub...
for the lovely campsite - just a loosening stroll from the pub!
