Walking: Old Roan to Bootle (May 19)

By bus to Old Roan station, then on to the Leeds-Liverpool Canal to leg it back to Bootle... just how awful could this urban waterway be?

Once off the A59 & walking away from Aintree shopping 'village' one immediately felt wrapped in green & quiet & nature...

You would not know you were surrounded by houses & folk if you did not check to see what was outside the green corridor...

I do not remember seeing such an abundance of waterfowl with young on an inland waterway previously... remarkable!

Do not get me wrong, at this point, the Leeds-Liverpool is an urban canal...

but with the Rimrose Valley nature reserve, along with many other parks & green spaces alongside, it's a lovely haven...

... & as we closed with Bootle, the 'urban' became more evident - yet, the 'natural' had obviously adapted & continued.

More manmade, more mess!  But this walk neither bored, nor stopped giving...

I would encourage everyone to take this fine stroll!
